wednesday 10/7/09

We left off in Trujillo ,correct? Chan Chan was huge! There were three palaces that we went to on the tour, all of them were very big. Chan Chan was the main one also the largest. Not all of it was even uncovered yet either. Our tour guide told us that there were about 20 to 30 square kilometers, we just walked around roughly ten square kilometers of that. Out side of all the palaces there were hairless dogs that sat and slept. Originally the dogs were used for people with arthritis because their body temperature is warmer than regular dog. Apparently heat helps arthritis because the people would have the dogs cuddle up next to them. The dogs were really creepy looking. Some of them had mohawk like things on their heads and that just how their hair grew. I thought the dogs were ugly. The day after Tim, mom, Jeff and I went to Chan Chan there was a night bus to the next town we stayed in called Mancora. Mancora, so far, is my favorite place. It was a surf town way up north right on the beach. The weather was warm everyday but it was comfortable. There was a breeze that came off the water so it never got too hot, Tim did get sunburned though. Of course he was also the only one to tan enough to be able to tell the difference from before. The hostel we stayed in there was called laguna camp. It was a surf camp too because the lady that owned it, her name was Pilar, was the 1988 peruvian surf champ and she gave surf lessons. Tim and Jeff took lessons together but also with a group of people that we met who were also staying in the hostel. Tim took lessons for two days and jeff joined him the last day. I'm sorry that it's taken so long to update the blog but we didn't have any internet the whole time in Mancora except for right on the beach. Taking the computers there wouldn't have been a good idea though so we waited and did school in internet cafes. Jeff and Mom managed to some how still have dinner parties even on our trip. On the third we made dinner for our new found friends in laguna camp, and on the fourth (mom's birthday, she's 29... again) Pilar and her friend made dinner for everyone. Monday morning we got on a bus and headed to where we are now, Chachapoyas. This is our second day here and tomorrow we're heading out tomorrow morning early towards the jungle.
I'm still having a hard time getting pictures up on here but i will do my best as soon as i'm given the time and internet. We wont have any internet for a while but the blog will be updated as soon as possible.
